Common Usages

This herb has warming and dispersing qualities and is used most often in formulas to treat the congestion of sinusitis (TCM: internal cold-damp symptoms and stagnation) with accompanying headaches, toothaches, fever, and chills; to break up the copious clear or white phlegm of asthma with cough (TCM: internal Lung-cold symptoms); and to treat arthritis, especially when the ribs are affected (OM: internal damp-cold symptoms and Qi stagnation).醫(yī)線網(wǎng)站www.med126.com

Traditional Usages and Functions

Repels pathogens; alleviates pain due to wind; warms Lungs and transforms phlegm; opens up areas of stagnation. Asarum is said to direct the action of other herbs to the Heart and kidney meridians, especially in the arms and chest.

Cautions in Use

Do not use during pregnancy. Do not use with Yin deficiency headaches or with cough due to heat in the Lungs (yellow phlegm). Use only in small quantities.
